The entrance for the SENTRI Lane at San Ysidro changed at the beginning of March 2014. There are a few different ways to access the new lane entrance. See below for options.
*Please note that while we try to ensure our directions are as current and accurate as possible, construction, road closures, border changes, and other unforeseen circumstances may cause differences in the information presented in these directions and the actual border situation.*
OPTION 1
If you aren’t familiar with the old SENTRI entrance, or you’ve been looking for a simplified route, this may be the easiest way for you to access the new SENTRI entrance.
GOOGLE MAP
- From Second Avenue you will follow signs for “AV. PASEO DE LOS HEROES” (second from the right) when you are approaching the border
- Continue on this ramp and keep left at the fork. In a few blocks you will arrive at Independencia Street and the Independence “Scissors” monument roundabout.
- Go ¾ of the way around the roundabout (essentially making a left hand turn)
- You will continue up and over a bridge and arrive at the Miguel Hidalgo monument. Continue straight through the roundabout.
- After one more block, you will arrive at the Padre Kino monument. You want to turn left onto Padre Kino/Línea Internacional. You will need to go to the right around the statue of Padre Kino to make the left hand turn onto Padre Kino Blvd.
- You will continue straight on this road. There will be two lanes that go to SENTRI. You will see blue signs for SENTRI to help you make sure you’re in the correct lanes.
OPTION 2
If you are used to going the old way to get to the SENTRI lane, don’t panic, you don’t need to learn an entirely new route. You will follow the same route as you did before except for the last few turns.
GOOGLE MAP
- At the last stop sign where you would make an illegal left turn to access the SENTRI lanes (yellow dot in route above), do NOT turn left. Continue straight.
- You will reach the first roundabout, Diana Cazadora. Continue straight through the roundabout.
- Continue until you reach a second roundabout, Miguel Hidalgo roundabout. You will go ¾ around the roundabout (essentially making a left hand turn from where you started) onto Independencia Avenue.
OPTION 2 SHORTCUT:
Once you’re familiar with the new lanes, there is a shortcut that can be taken along the Option 2 route. We recommend taking one of the longer routes before trying this shortcut as it can be difficult to figure out which lane to turn into for SENTRI if it’s your first time trying to find the new entrance.
- Follow the old route to the SENTRI entrance. At the last stop sign where you would make an illegal left turn to access the SENTRI lanes (yellow dot in photo above), do NOT turn left. You will continue straight for one more block until you reach another stop sign.
- Turn left at the stop sign. Continue one block.
- You will reach Padre Kino where you will make a left into the SENTRI lanes. There are 5 different lanes that have been sectioned off at this intersection, which can make it difficult to determine which lane to turn into. The SENTRI lanes will be the third lane you could turn left into – in between the temporary concrete barriers and the trees and shrubs. It’s two lanes wide (the Ready Lane is just to the left of the SENTRI lanes and is only one lane wide). There is a sign above, but it is difficult to see until you are already in the correct lane.
