Progress on San Diego/Ensenada Ferry

The long-awaited ferry from San Diego to Ensenada has officially docked in Ensenada but is still not operating for passengers until Ensenada’s port terminal has finished upgrades. Authorities are still setting up areas for customs, immigration, and security and Azteca Ferries (the company running the route) is hoping to be operating by the end of 2025. Once in operation, the ferry will carry 330 passengers with the ride taking about 2.5 to 3 hours. Tickets are expected to be around $50/60 one-way and they are planning two daily departures in each direction, with morning and afternoon options. Passengers will go through full airport-style customs and immigration at both ports and will need a valid passport to board.

Baja Beach Fest

The Baja Beach Fest in Rosarito will take place from August 8-10. This is a large festival that always causes a lot of traffic in the area as well as back ups at the border, so please plan accordingly.

Update on the Amigos de los Californios Health Center

In December we included an article in the newsletter about Amigos de los Californios. For 20 years this nonprofit, volunteer group provided dental clinics for the communities in the Sierra de San Francisco in Baja. The final project for Amigos is to build a Health Center in San Francisco. We asked if anyone would be willing to contribute to this project. The response from DB members was overwhelming. Several of you are even giving monthly donations. Your generosity has enabled the construction of the Health Center to begin. I am delighted to report that the architect and construction workers are on site and work has commenced. The residents of San Francisco are beyond excited. I will keep you posted as the project progresses. The Center should be complete by the end of the year. Muchísimas gracias for all that this center will mean to our amigos in Baja.
