U.S. Land Border Open
Non U.S. citizens who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have appropriate documentation are now permitted to enter the United States via land ports of entry as of November 8, 2021. Non-essential travelers who are not U.S. citizens are required to (1) provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, as outlined on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website; and (2) verbally attest to their reason for travel and COVID-19 vaccination status during a border inspection. US citizens driving across the border or crossing through CBX are still allowed back into the US without proof of COVID vaccinations with no COVID test required.
FMM Price Increase
The price for FMM tourist permits increased to 638 pesos on January 1, 2022. Prepaid FMMs issued through Discover Baja will now cost $40. Baja California Restaurants Required to Ask for Proof of Vaccination
As of January 5th, some restaurants in the state of Baja California are requiring restaurants to ask patrons to show proof of vaccination or negative results of a COVID test in order to enter the restaurant. Please travel with your vaccination card.
New Fairmont Hotel Coming to La Paz
Fairmont Hotel & Resorts will be opening their first property in Baja with the Fairmont La Paz Puerta Cortés Resort and Residences, scheduled to open in 2023. The resort will offer 155 guest rooms, 24 suites and 61 residences, as well as four dining options, three outdoor pools, and a wellness village.
U.S. Passport Fee Increases
On December 27, 2021, the United States raised the price for a U.S. passport by $20. The cost for a passport is now $130 for adults and $100 for children under 16 years of age.

New Movie to Start Filming in Baja Sur
A new movie called “Father of the Californias” about Fernando de la Toba will start filming in Baja Sur in April 2022. The movie will tell the true life story of de la Toba who became the governor of Baja California Sur and was instrumental in achieving the independence of BCS from Spain.
