Trip Report: The “Hot Chicks” Visit the Gray Whales in San Ignacio
“The ‘Hot Chicks’ had a great time driving about 600 miles south of the border. We are two sets of sisters and all cousins in our 60s & 70s. We heard all kinds of dire warnings about the dangers of traveling in Mexico. We were aware and alert just like when we visit any country. We know the laws and follow them. The purpose of the trip was to visit San Ignacio and the whales. We drove down in two days and stayed at Kuyima camp, where we rented two tents. The delicious fish we ate in their restaurant was so fresh, I think I actually saw it jiggling on my plate. Our first experience with the whales was unbelievable. We spent the whole time just petting and enjoying them. The second day we watched in amazement as one whale after another breached. The whale trip should be on everyone’s “bucket list”. It just touches your soul. Also visited the cave paintings and drove to Santa Rosalia to see the Eiffel church and the old mining town. I had driven down to Cabo for the first time in 1973 and I thought Baja was a wonder of the world then and I haven’t changed my mind. It is magical.” -Noreen Walsh If you have a trip report you’d like to share, please email it (along with any photos) to jen@discoverbaja.com
